DEFIANCE is about two brothers who manage to find some freedom amidst Nazi-occupied Eastern Europe. Over time they begin to gain followers until they get to the point wherein they have their own mini-society. The film is about adversity and staying true to yourself when everything around you seems to be falling apart. It was very difficult to find one quote amongst a myraid of great ones in this film, but I have chosen this one:
"If we should die trying to live, at least we live like human beings."
-Tuvia
They are faced with death over and over again in this film and Tuvia repeatedly acts as the voice of inspiration, attempting to keep everyone's spirits high. This quote is about fighting to always be the best you can be, and in this society, the best they could do was to stay alive. To us it may seem like an easy task, but living through harsh winters in the forest, all the while being hunted down my Nazis was not easy. It is with this in mind that this film and quote especially can inspire me to live every day to its fullest and hope for the best out of my life.
