The idea of seeing a movie in theatres alone used to terrify me, but recently I have been feeling more and more independent and whenever I do things on my own I get an awesomly satisfying sense of empowerment. So when I noticed that MOCKINGJAY PT. 2 was back in a theatre near me I spontaneously decided to go, by myself! The movie did not disappoint. I was shocked at how similar it was to the book. Obviously they took some liberties, but the main points were still there. If you haven't read the books, this installment picks up after they have freed Peeta from the Capitol and he has just attached Katniss. While they are trying to reset Peeta's memories, Katniss joins the frontlines to attempt to gain more support and arms for the revolution. After Katniss is shot and brought back she is nursed back to health and then sneaks her way back into the war zone. President Coin, hoping to play it off as part of the plan sends out her camera team and Peeta to walk through the capital and film their efforts. Although Katniss has a plan of her own, to assasinate Snow.
This was not one of JLaw's best performances, but it was certainly still good! The beginning was a bit slow, but when she really got into the pain of wartime and her and Peeta's strained relationship, we could really see her shine. I enjoy feeling what the characters feel and I really felt the struggle between Peeta and Katniss for during this film. I touch on it more in my Quote of the Week (coming out tomorrow, 2/18).
This is a great family-friendly movie, there is some violence, but it is nothing like that in THE REVENANT and THE HATEFUL EIGHT.
