"Scream Queens" centers around the fictional university, Wallace University, twenty years after the post-partum death of a sorority student. Now it seems someone is back with a vengence as people close to the Kappa sorority are being killed off one by one by the "Red Devil". It seems that everyone could be a suspect and no one is safe from imminent death.
This is Ryan Murphy's (creator of "Glee" and "American Horror Story") latest endevour and it has the Murphy name all over it, complete with the token gay boy, suppressed teenagers, ironic dialogue and Lea Michele. I was reluctant to watch such a bold attempt at irony and will admit that I only watched the two-hour pilot for it's killer cast (pun intended). What I discovered was a killer television show. Yes, at times it is absolutely ridiculous, but that is what makes it great. It seems that Murphy has taken the teenage angst and fashionably stylized elements of "Glee" and mashed them with the mystery, horror and murder of "American Horror Story" and created something rather unique and entertaining.
And it wouldn't be a true Ryan Murphy production without the not-so-subtle digs at current national debate topics such as gay rights and sorority hazing faux pauxs. The two-hour pilot is worth it if you have previously been a fan of his work, so just try it out, if it's not your cup of tea, you can kill me later!
The show aires Thursdays on FOX and is also currently on Hulu.
